Sheriff: Lyon to Serve Sentence in Jail, Not Home Confinement in Carmichael

Lyon filmed encounters with prostitutes.

A real estate executive who filmed encounters between himself and prostitutes will serve his sentence in jail instead of at his Carmichael home, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office announced today.

Sheriff Scott Jones announced in a news release that Michael Lyon, the former chief executive officer of Lyon Real Estate, will report to jail to begin serving his sentence rather than be allowed to serve his entire sentence on home detention.

Lyon pleaded guilty March 14 to four felony counts of intentionally recording confidential communications without consent. The charges are linked to multiple sexual encounters Lyon filmed with four escorts at residences in Carmichael and Roseville.

Following the pleas, Sacramento Superior Court Judge Gary Ransom suspended a two-year jail term and instead sentenced Lyon to one year in custody and probation. Lyon must now report to the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center next month to begin serving his sentence, Dep. Jason Ramos said.

Earlier this month, Assembly Bill 708 breezed through a committee vote 7-0. The bill, authored by Assemblyman Steve Knight (R-Antelope Valley), would change statute of limitation laws involving hidden recordings and was inspired by the Lyon case, a staffer said.
