-San Juan Unified School District students with a gift for on-the-spot comedy will go head-to-head in the district’s Comedy Sports Tournament. Students from five high schools will compete in a series of matches that will push their improvisation skills to the limit – and guarantee entertainment for all.

-Written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, The Dixie Swim Club is fun play follows the story of five women from the South who get together for a weekend every August to catch up. Filled with laughter, friendship and a bit of meddling, the comedy is perfect for a girl's night out. At the Chautauqua Playhouse, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Feb. 4.
-In high school sports, the Jesuit basketball team (14-4), ranked No. 2 in the area by The Sacramento Bee, tries to get back in the win column when they head to El Dorado Hills to face No. 12 Oak Ridge at 7 p.m. The No. 9 Del Campo boys (15-4), coming off Wednesday's "Battle of the Oaks" loss to No. 8 Bella Vista, host Rio Linda at 7 p.m. The Rio Americano girls basketball squad (12-7) hosts Mira Loma (1-13) at 7:15 p.m. The El Camino girls basketball team (15-3), ranked No. 4 by The Bee, hosts Whitney of Rocklin at 7:30 p.m. The Victory Christian girls (11-4) host Sacramento Waldorf of Fair Oaks at 6:30 p.m.; the Vikings boys (11-3) face the Waves at 8 p.m.
Saturday
-Come join the El Camino High School Dance Team for a morning of fun, dance and games. The E’gals will teach participants a dance routine to be performed with the E’gals at half time for an ECHS basketball game. Open to all kids K-8th grade. Saturday. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. – clinic ends at noon.
-The Del Campo PTO will be sponsoring an E-Waste recycle and clothing donation drive this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They can accept all home electronics, TVs, computer monitors, CPUs, laptops, and keyboards. They will not accept appliances, microwaves, batteries, or light bulbs of any kind. Also, they will be collecting printer cartridges, old cell phones, old gaming systems and digital cameras. They are also having a clothing donation drive where they can accept gently used clothing, towels, bed linen, shoes, belts, purses, stuffed animals and hats. Please bag these items separately from E-waste. This event will run rain or shine. The PTO could use some volunteers to help out with this event. Volunteers can come for as little as an hour up to all day. Students, parents - all are welcome. - The Carmichael Recreation and Park District is holding a public workshop regarding a disc golf course at Carmichael Park. -Come to Rio Americano Baseball's 2nd Annual Crab Feed on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Rancho Cordova Elks Lodge. Enjoy pasta, salad, bread and, of course, crab. In addition, there will be a fabulous silent and live auction and a tasty dessert auction.
-Carmichael Canine Corral Dog Park is hosting its 2nd annual Potluck Dinner and General Member Meeting on Saturday from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., Veteran's Hall, 5750 Grant Avenue (Grant and Fair Oaks). Bring your dish to share with 10-12 people and $5 per person entrance fee. Guest speaker is Tom Lucido, regional trainer for Petco, who will address dog behavior.
-In high school sports, Jesuit hosts the annual Holy Court basketball game against Christian Brothers at 6 p.m. The El Camino girls head to the Bay Area to face Mission San Jose of Fremont.

-Cheer on the San Francisco 49ers as they host the New York Giants in the NFC Championship Game for a chance at the Super Bowl starting at 3:30 p.m. at Palm Street Pub and Grill or the Clubhouse sports bar, both on Fair Oaks Boulevard.
