Davidson was Chamber benefactor, veteran.
Ross Davidson, a Carmichael Chamber of Commerce benefactor and community leader, died Saturday of natural causes, chamber officials announced today. He was 91. Davidson was a decorated World War II veteran and was a community leader in Carmichael for more than 60 years, including as president and honorary mayor in the chamber, officials said. As honorary governor, he rode in the July 4 parade. "Ross will be deeply missed in the community he loved," chamber officials said in a released statement. "We offer our condolences to the Davidson family and the hundreds of people who respected and loved this great American." Spc. Manuel J. Vasquez, 22, of West Sacramento, died April 24 in Paktika province, Afghanistan, the U.S. Department of Defense announced. Vasquez spent his childhood in West Sacramento and Citrus Heights, where he went to Mira Loma High School, News 10 reported. Barry Smith served in Carmichael chamber, faith community, real estate.
Barry Smith, a past Carmichael Chamber of Commerce president and community leader, has passed away, chamber officials announced. Smith, 79, died March 28 after a long illness, chamber officials said. He was a member and leader in the Carmichael and Fair Oaks chambers of commerce. Smith was married to his wife Phyllis and the couple had three sons. Smith, a Stanford University alumnus, owned Barry Smith Realty that served the Carmichael and Fair Oaks communities. His life was celebrated earlier this month at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church. Dick Clark, who was known as "America's Oldest Teenager" for his youthful looks years after the word "youthful" could no longer be applied to him, died Wednesday at age 82. The American icon is best known for being the host of American Bandstand, one of the first TV shows to feature rock and roll music, and one of the longest-running, airing from 1957 to 1987. Clark introduced dozens of music legends to American teens on the show, which also featured teenaged dancers. His clean-cut appearance also helped ease the way for the music to make it into American living rooms of the far more conservative 1950s. Family, former students, colleagues fill Holy Spirit Church.
Former Jesuit High School Spanish teacher Tom Donato was remembered by family and colleagues on Wednesday for having a love of life and of his family and students. Donato, who passed away March 27 at age 63,was remembered during a funeral Mass at Holy Spirit Church near Land Park in Sacramento. He worked at the Carmichael school as a Spanish teacher and football and baseball coach for 36 years before retiring in 2007. "My dad loved life and he instilled that in me," Alan Donato told the overflow crowd of relatives, friends and former students and colleagues. Tom Donato worked at the school as a teacher and coach for 36 years before passing away earlier this week.
The Jesuit High School community is remembering retired Spanish teacher Tom Donato who unexpectedly died earlier this week at age 63. Donato worked at the school as a Spanish teacher and football and baseball coach for 36 years before retiring in 2007. “Tom was a valued member of the Jesuit High School community for over 35 years and he touched the lives of many students during his tenure,” a release from the school said. He is survived by his wife, Terri, and son, Allen. James Wesley Saunders Jr. died Feb. 10 at the Elderly Inn in Carmichael, The Intelligencer and Wheeling (W. Va.) News-Register news website reported. He was 87. In addition to his parents James W. and Florence V. (Obey) Saunders Sr., Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife Freda Saunders, a brother Robert and two sisters Ruth and Virginia, the site reported.

Barbara Lee Scott, who was born in Carmichael, died Feb. 10 surrounded by family and friends at her home in Ruch, Ore., the Mail Tribune newspaper of Medford, Ore. reported. She was 47. Bobbi (as she was known) was born April 12, 1964, in Carmichael. Bobbi is survived by her husband, Tim; children, Jason and Kaeli; her father, Glenn Schafer; and her sister, Shannon Caldwell, the Mail Tribune reported.

Carmichael Seventh-Day Adventist Church holds service for Claire Findley.
A memorial service in Carmichael for Claire Findley brought both tears and joy as family and friends remembered the life of a woman who faced great hardship and led a life of great faith. In celebration of her life and spirit, Findley's family and friends met for a memorial service on Saturday at the Carmichael Seventh-day Adventist Church. Claire passed away on Jan. 17 at the age 60, after a long and difficult battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or otherwise known as ALS, an illness that required her to quit her job as a nurse in 2005 and put her under 24-hour care. During her memorial, Claire was described by her son, Forrest Findley, as a person that loved, “she loved people, she loved animals, but most of all, she loved God.” …
