Jesuit Track & Field Captures Section Title

Marauders earn Carmichael school's 102nd section title.

The Jesuit track and field team captured the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section championship on Friday, school officials announced. The victory is the Carmichael high school's 102nd section title in school history, including water polo earlier this school year. Check back later for team and individual results.

Del Campo Softball Advances, Baseball Out

Girls move on in playoffs, boys eliminated.

The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs brought mixed results for Del Campo's softball and baseball teams on Friday. The Cougars girls advanced with a 15-10 win over Rosemont while the boys were knocked out 11-3 by Granite Bay. The softball team was led by senior Makayla Props, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles, The Sacramento Bee reported. The Cougars next face Christian Brothers today at 3 p.m. at the Sacramento Softball Complex. In baseball, four Del Campo pitchers walked 13 Granite Bay batters in the loss at American River College.

Rio Americano Girls Soccer in Section Finals

Raiders play Saturday to defend title against Antelope.

The Rio Americano girls soccer team will defend its section title on Saturday after they defeated Rodriguez of Fairfield 3-0 on Thursday. The Raiders' goals were scored by Alexa Heinzer, Mel Hoskins and Paige Borgogno. Rio faces Antelope at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Cosumnes Oaks High School for the championship.

El Camino Baseball Cruises Past Benicia in Playoffs

Defense comes up big for Eagles as they eliminate Panthers 9-2 Thursday at Dan McAuliffe Memorial Ballpark in first round of the D-III Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.

Defensive fielding and key hits helped El Camino’s varsity baseball team advance to the second round of the Division III Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs as the Eagles knocked off the Benicia Panthers 9-2 Thursday at Dan McAuliffe Memorial Ballpark in Sacramento. Benicia scored first by recording two runs in the top of the first inning, but El Camino would answer back by scoring three more runs in the bottom of the first. The Eagles led for the rest of the game after the first inning. Despite giving up two runs in the first inning and not recording a single strikeout for the entire game, senior starting pitcher Mike Franz completed the game for El Camino. Jesuit Baseball Knocked Out of Playoffs

Marauders fall to Vacaville.

The Jesuit baseball team was upset in the quarterfinals of the high school baseball playoffs on Wednesday, falling 3-2 to Vacaville. The Marauders, who entered the game as the two-time defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division I North champions, were held to six hits and four errors, The Sacramento Bee reported. Julian Barron and Andre Gregory had two hits each for Jesuit and Logan James struck out eight in his final Marauders appearance before heading to Stanford, The Bee reported. "Best experience of my life: 4 years of Jesuit Baseball with the best group of guys ever #grateful #blessed," Jesuit's Gabe Araj wrote on Twitter.

Today's events of the day are related to Carmichael-area high schools. -El Camino Fundamental High School holds its Advanced Play at 7 p.m. and through Saturday. -The Eagles baseball team is in the playoffs against Benicia at 4 p.m. at Dan McAuliffe Ballpark, 3001 State University Drive in Sacramento. Del Campo Student-Athletes Honored During Scholarship Ceremony

Students, parents and staff joined together to honor five outstanding Cougar athletes.

That's just one of the bits of advice Gary Summerhays, Del Campo High School's athletic director, reminded parents, students and fellow staff members of Wednesday evening during a reception to honor five students on their achievements. "I know a lot more about being young than you know about being old," Summerhays said. "Start with the end in mind; that way you'll know where you want to be." HS Sports Playoffs: Rio Americano Girls Soccer Moves On

El Camino and Victory Christian soccer, EC softball, VC baseball eliminated.

The Rio Americano girls soccer team advanced in the playoffs Tuesday, while four other Carmichael-area teams were eliminated. The Raiders girls shut out Yuba City 3-0 with goals from Alexa Heinzer, Lizzie Moulton and Sammy Carpenter. The team next hosts Rodriguez of Fairfield on Thursday. In other girls soccer action, El Camino was shut out at Benicia 1-0 and Victory Christian fell 2-1 at Mariposa. The Eagles softball team was knocked out by Vanden 10-2. The Vikings baseball team was eliminated by Le Grand 11-1 in five innings.

Events of the Day 5/16: Carmichael Presbyterian Event, DCHS Sports Ceremony and JHS Baseball Playoffs

Upper Room Student Ministry, Cougars sports and Marauders baseball playoffs.

Today's events of the day are a Carmichael Presbyterian Church youth ministry event, Del Campo High School's student-athlete ceremony and high school spring sports playoffs. The CPC hosts the Upper Room Student Ministry event Mess Fest at 5:30 p.m. There's an obstacle course and it sounds like participants will get messy. Del Campo hosts a ceremony for some of its student-athletes who are receiving college scholarships at 7 p.m. Jesuit's baseball team opens the playoffs at 4 p.m. against Vacaville at Sacramento City College.

HS Baseball Playoffs: Del Campo Advances

Cougars top Burbank to make playoffs.

The Del Campo baseball team defeated Burbank 5-1 on Monday in the outbracket of the CIF-Sac Joaquin Section, The Sacramento Bee reported. Tyler Swank hit a home run to lead the Cougars. Tim Hall went 2-for-3 with a double and Jacob Sexton went 2-for-4, The Bee reported. Del Campo next faces Granite Bay on Friday.
